Jennifer Sweeney and Kevin Soucy are shooting a roll of photographs
every week. It's not just to document the growth of their daughter
Evangeline, born this summer. It is a creative process for the former
Maine College of Art students. "Also, I never know what she looks like
when she's over my shoulder all the time," said Soucy.
The photo above
was taken as the new parents were getting ready to visit relatives. "It
takes about an extra hour to get out of the house now," says Sweeney.
New pictures get displayed on the counter of Oishii, Soucy's sushi
restaurant located in the Portland Public Market. The very first photo
on display was Sweeney's ultrasound.
Soucy left art school to pursue work in the restaurant industry,
starting at Anthony's Italian Restaurant. Anthony's now has a restaurant
right around the corner from Oishii in the market where Anthony's son
Mark Barrasso also proudly diplays photos of his newborn daughter.
Diners who frequent the market are watching the girls grow up through
photos.
After working for other restaurants, Soucy began his own where
his artistic talents appear not only in the California rolls and ramen,
but in the graphic elements for the logo and the menu.
So why sushi?
"Why not? It's healthy, quick and part of my heritage."
