Living at The Highlands means freedom with your retirement living...freedom of choice to pick your own lifestyle, such as co-op purchase of a private home, renting an independent-living apartment, or the freedom to enjoy life with some help available in our private, assisted living apartments.

Located just minutes from Brunswick and Bowdoin College, living in The Highlands community gives you the freedom to explore Maine´s Mid Coast region. Our hilltop location in historic Topsham covers 75 landscaped acres, with plenty of walking trails to discover. We are also just a few miles northeast of Portland, so our residents enjoy all the cultural, social and retail opportunities in Maines largest city. For some special events such as the symphony, art exhibits and other programs, The Highlands provides van service for our residents. We also offer a premier dining program, an indoor pool and fitness coordinator, on-site hair salon, banking and library. Theres even the freedom from dusting and cleaning, with housekeeping provided.

Our homes available for co-op purchase offer the freedom to design your new home as it is built. Those who choose our independent apartments in the Maine Lodge can select one or two bedroom designs, with some variations to choose from. Theres also the option of The Residences in the Holden Frost House. These very spacious apartments, ready for occupancy in February 2006 are being built in a brand new wing to be attached to the gracious and restored Federal-period mansion. There are only 10 of these apartments, which can be customized to the owners desires. And for seniors in need of assisted living, they wont have to give up the freedom of their privacy. One bedroom apartments are available, with many activities provided within a warm and caring environment, along with on-call assistance offered around the clock.
