Cambridge
Cambridge, a town in Somerset County, incorporated on February 8, 1834 on land set off from the town of Ripley. The town added land from Wellington in 1885 to form the current boundaries. Named for Cambridge, England, the town is divided from neighboring Ripley by Main Stream, a tributary of the Sebasticook River.
Settled in 1804 when it was still part of the unorganized township T5 R5 NWP, the village was severely damaged by fire in 1825. Several stores and mills followed as it recovered.
This small community is served by Maine Routes 150 and 152 and surrounds the eastern end of Cambridge Pond.

Jul 4, 2006 7:01 AMCambridge is a quiet, little town with lots of open space. We do not have cable TV, high speed Internet, fast-food restaurants, traffic lights or cellular telephone reception (at least not very good reception). What we do have are many good, honest people who look out for each other and care. We sometimes have community events that draw crowds larger than our population base for a while, and as quickly as they arrive, our guests return home I will bet to tell friends and family what a nice town Cambridge really is. We do not work at our reputation for being pleasurable; it just seems to happen naturally. Maybe something is in the water. Maybe it is because we do not have any attorney’s trying to rustle up business for themselves or greedy businesspersons who take advantage of other people only to benefit them. When you tell someone that you are from Cambridge, he or she always asks, Mass. We do not have an accent like them and we certainly do not act like those kinds of people. “No, Cambridge, Maine! Where life is good.”
