Mariaville

Mariaville is a town in Hancock County, incorporated on February 29, 1836 from Mariaville Plantation. In 1850 it set off land to form the short lived town of Tilden, which was annexed back to Mariaville in 1852. The town, with substantial frontage on Graham Lake and the east and west branches of the Union River, was named for William Bingham's daughter Maria. While somewhat remote twelve miles north of Ellsworth on Maine Route 181, the town has a consistently growing population. From Maine: An Encyclopedia (www.themaineencyclopedia.com)
