Oxbow

Oxbow is a plantation in Aroostook County, first organized for general purposes on August 8, 1870. The windings of the Aroostook River through the area make shapes similar to oxbows, the harness that keeps oxen attached to their loads. A particular circular configuration in the River is named The Oxbow. The first settlers arrived in 1842 and the township, T9 R5, was organized for election purposes in 1844. The nearest Maine Route is 11, just a short trip north to Masardis. From Maine: An Encyclopedia (www.themaineencyclopedia.com)
