Parsonsfield

Parsonsfield is a town in York County incorporated on August 29, 1785 from a tract of land originally sold by Sagamore Captain Sunday to the first white proprietors. A later proprietor, Thomas Parsons, is the namesake for the community, first as Parsonstown, then Parsonsfield. A modest industrial center in 1839, the town contained seven grist mills, seven saw mills, a woolen factory and an oil mill. Kezar Falls, a village on the Ossipee River named for George Kezar, is the largest in the area at the junction of Maine Routes 25 and 160. The community is split between Parsonsfield and Porter across the river, and is governed and taxed separately by the two towns. From Maine: An Encyclopedia (www.themaineencyclopedia.com)
