Pownal
Pownal is a town in Cumberland County, settled in 1680 and incorporated on March 3, 1808 from a portion of Freeport. It swapped land with North Yarmouth in 1813 and 1816.
The longtime home for Pineland Center, the State facility for the mentally retarded, the town is located just northwest of Freeport.
Bradbury Mountain State Park offers picnicking and a modest walk to the summit.
